Here at Vertüe Dental, we recommend bringing your child along for their first appointment once their first tooth has come through. This is to familiarise them with the dental practice environment and to enable them to feel safe and enthusiastic about caring for their teeth from a young age.

What to expect

Your child’s first few visits will normally be focused on getting them used to their surroundings. It’s not uncommon for kids to be nervous about allowing their dentist to examine their mouths, so it’s possible that it may not be until their second or third appointment that we can do this.

Once we have nurtured your child’s confidence and fostered a trustful relationship with them, we can examine their teeth and observe how the teeth bite together. This is to ensure any developmental problems with their teeth are closely monitored and treated when the time is right. The soft tissues in your child’s mouth are also checked over and we will look for signs of disease or decay that need to be resolved, to avoid any further problems.

Your child’s visits to the dentist are also an opportunity for them to learn about how diet and lifestyle influences oral health. We will also demonstrate how to brush correctly in a fun and engaging way, so that they feel excited and inspired.

As a parent, what can I expect during my child’s visits?

We want parents to feel fully supported, so that they’re best placed to help bolster their child’s at-home oral hygiene routine. We welcome your questions, however small, and we’re here to help you, and never to judge you.
