The process normally takes 2 sessions. Once an examination of the tooth has been carried out, the tooth is prepared by being carefully shaped with a handpiece motor which is a straightforward procedure. This ensures your crown will be the perfect thickness, size and shape among your neighbouring teeth. Using state-of-the-art digital impressions, we can create a 3D model of your teeth. As a result, a precision-fit restoration can be created by a highly skilled dental technician that looks like it belongs as part of your smile.
Your crown will be fitted with a strong luting or adhesive cement.
Today, patients are able to choose from a range of natural-looking and durable materials for their crowns. Porcelain and feldspathic ceramics offer excellent cosmetic results, whilst Gold and Zirconia options are an excellent alternative for back teeth, which do most of the heavy lifting when you chew – these materials are extra strong. We will set out all the materials available to you including our recommendation, so you can make an informed decision.
You should not experience any discomfort during the crowning process, as we’ll administer a local anaesthetic to the area being treated, if required. As a practice that’s extremely dedicated to helping nervous patients feel relaxed, we encourage you to let us know if you are anxious about the process. Digital impressions are a simple scan of your teeth, allowing us to obtain a 3D model of your teeth, in order to make custom restorations, like crowns. We believe patients should no longer have to put up with the uncomfortable liquid material that’s used when taking manual impressions, which are still used by many practices at present.
